The town is known for Berea College, with its commitment to interracial co-education and service to the Appalachian Region. Berea is the “Folk Arts and Crafts Capital of Kentucky” -many local artist’s work is displayed at the Kentucky Artisan Center. There are many events, displaying the local arts from the college and other local artists. Historic Boone Tavern is also another destination spot for many and it is well known for the Hotel and Dining. Berea has a pedestrian-friendly culture supported by miles of bike trails, sidewalks and regularly held 5K-walks and 10K-runs. The Pinnacles in Berea is a popular hiking trail as well. Berea also hosts the annual Spoonbread Festival, which serves spoonbread, hosts a balloon glow, car show and many vendors.
